Sydney, Australia – Freelancer.com, an online marketplace for outsourcing freelance work, announced on Monday that it has acquired Freemarket.com, a virtual content marketplace.

Sydney-based Freelancer.com says that over 1.7 million professionals from more than 234 countries and regions are registered on the site.

The company has launched an online marketplace for buying and selling virtual goods, aiming to become the “‘iTunes for designers and programmers,’ with a digital marketplace for stock logos, website templates, stationery, images, sound clips, 3D models” and other projects.
